ASSIGNMENT N° 5

Excel

Date Due: November 16, 1999

CASE 4 E2.43 – Stock Portfolio for Juan Cortez

Follow instructions on the book (Text 2), except for:
Step 3 – Save the report using the number e243. Your name is no longer needed.

Step 4 – You do not need to print your worksheet. Do NOT center your page vertically. Design the header as you wish, but make sure you at least include:

Step 5 – Do NOT use the AutoFormat feature in Excel. Use your creativity in making this worksheet look professional. You should at least use 2 of the features available to you in the formatting toolbar (e.g. colors, borders), and the numbers must be formatted accordingly. Once you finish, hide the gridlines, so they do not appear on the screen. Name your worksheet Portfolio 1.

Step 6 – Make a duplicate of the worksheet, name it Formulas, and show the formulas on the screen. Arrange the size of the cells so that all formulas are visible (if necessary) and the report still prints on one page.

Step 7 – Do NOT clear the prices. Make a duplicate of Portfolio 1 instead, and name it Portfolio 2. Now clear the Current Price column on Portfolio 2.

Step 8 – Enter the prices on Portfolio 2. You do not need to print your worksheet.

Step 9 – Make a duplicate of Portfolio 2 and name it Portfolio 3. Use the Internet to search for the current prices. For simplicity, use the closing price of the stock for the previous day (i.e., if you are doing your assignment on 11/06, you should use the closing price for 11/05). From now on, you will work on Portfolio 3.

Step 10 – Insert a comment on the column heading indicating the source of the information and the date you are using as reference. Be sure to include the URL of the website you used.

Step 11 – Add a new column B in to include the Ticker Symbol of each stock. If any of these companies has more than one ticker symbol, use that of the parent company.

Step 12 – Has Juan Cortez made any money so far? How much did the portfolio cost him? How much is it worth today? Show your results on Portfolio 3.

Step 13 – Email the URL of your assignment (see Assignment Drop Box).
