CREA E-132—Writing for the Internet

This is a beginner's course in planning, organizing, and writing hypertext documents for the World Wide Web. We explore the taxonomy, geography, and ecology of the Internet and see how writing for the Web fits into the spectrum of traditional media used for information, education, and entertainment.

Each student develops a small Web site for publication over the Web. For students taking the course for graduate credit, the required scope of the final project is at least ten Web pages, and for undergraduates at least five. Enrollment in the course is limited to 15 students, and registration for no credit is not permitted.

Prerequisites: familiarity with using a Web browser and willingness to work in a Macintosh environment. Since the course is sponsored by the Writing Program, proficiency in English is also required.
